About Us

Meifod Pre-school is long and well-established childcare and pre-school education service run through the medium of English, for up to 16 children. It is based in the demountable classroom at Ysgol Meifod. We are a child-led setting, where the children make choices about what they learn in a way that is holistic to them. We pride ourselves on the friendliness and efficiency of our staff and ensure that everyone receives a warm welcome. We are registered with the C.I.W. who inspects the Pre-school. We are also members of Early Years Wales. We are inspected by ESTYN and have had good inspection reports. Copies are available to view on their website. We are an approved setting for Funded Early Years Education for 3-year-olds and the Childcare offer Wales. Meifod Pre-school is a Registered Charity and the Charity number is 1200041.

Meifod Pre-school – Quality of Care Procedure

Meifod Pre-school aims to provide a safe, secure and stimulating environment in which children learn and develop through the medium of play.

It is our intention to make the group accessible to all Pre-school children, where all children and adults have the right to equality of opportunity and to be treated with respect.  Children with special needs are welcome and we will do our utmost to accommodate them – our premises have full access and toilet facilities for any children with physical disabilities.

The group is registered and inspected by CIW and is a member of Early Years .We operate within National Minimum Standards and Regulations.

The group is also inspected by ESTYN and operates a curriculum in line with the Early Years Foundation Phase, the key elements of which are listed above.

Parent and carer partnership with Meifod Pre-school

Parents are the prime educators of their Pre-school children and it is our aim to provide every opportunity to support and develop that education.  Active parental participation in the group is encouraged and supported.

Information is shared regularly via notices, displays, social media page and newsletters.

Parents/carers of potential new starters are given an appointment to visit the session and talk to the Play Leader about the ethos of the pre-school, what it provides and a chance for their child to join in the session with them.

New starters are settled on a flexible basis reflecting the individual needs of each child, with parents/carers being invited to stay at the session for as long as they and/or the staff feel the child needs. Staff use this time to find out as much as possible about the child in order to allow them to meet their individual needs e.g. use of comfort toys etc.

The Play Leader is available after the session to discuss any questions, issues or concerns with parents/carers or a separate appointment can be made.

Group Self-Appraisal and Future Development

The group prepares plans for learning opportunities on a long, medium and short term basis and the development of the children is observed and assessed.  This allows us to identify the needs of the individual children and plan activities to meet them.  The children are asked their opinion of the activities and encouraged to follow their own ideas – child led activities which are supported by staff are the most successful and most fun for all involved.

The Early Years Foundation Phase team provide regular training, visits and advice, which also requires the group to carry out a self-appraisal and long term action plan.

ESTYN and CIW inspect the group and provide action plans and requirements which the group puts in their own action plan. Click here to see the most recent ESTYN report.

A parental questionnaire is sent to parents to find out about their views and ideas for the group (in addition there is the opportunity at regular committee meetings for these to be raised) and when identified these are also put into the group’s action plan.
