Other Information
Sessions
The pre-school opens at 8.30 am it is important that children are not left before this time. The staff cannot be responsible for the safety of children during this time. Please ensure that children and adults are registered on arrival.
The pre-school closes at 11.30am or 5:30pm. For safety reasons the pre-school staff must be informed of any changes in the normal collection of children at the start of the session.
We advise that children wear sensible clothing and footwear. We remind you that the children do take part in some activities that are messy, so it is advisable that old clothes are worn as sometimes paint, etc may stain clothing. *Suitable clothing for outdoor play is also necessary; sunscreen, hats, wellies, and coats are essential as the children go outside every day in most conditions.*
Snacks, foods and drinks
During the session the children are offered a drink of milk or water with a variety of healthy snacks. If you do not wish your child to receive any or all of the above please inform a member of staff immediately.
Cooking activities are included in the Pre-school activities please inform staff of any allergies or food items you do not wish your child to have.
You may provide your child with their own drink, if you wish, in their own container but please inform staff. We do not allow other snacks from home during the sessions as we try to encourage a healthy diet and it can also be a cause of jealousy if some have them and others do not, and can be a swallowing hazard if children are eating whilst playing.
Additional Needs
The Pre-school welcomes all children with any range of individual needs – and we will do our utmost to accommodate them. Parents/carers are encouraged to come to the group to assess our facilities and to discuss with the Pre-school staff what special requirements would be needed to enable their child to fully participate in and benefit from attending the Pre-school sessions. Our premises have full access and toilet facilities for children with physical disabilities.
How we run
Meifod Pre-school is committee-run. The committee is made up of volunteer parents/carers/friends associated with the pre-school. The committee is responsible for the running of the group, ensuring it meets the requirements of all appropriate regulations, raising funds to maintain the Pre-school, paying the wages to the staff and organising fundraising. There is a committee meeting every term that is open to all parents to attend. At the meetings, we discuss issues that relate to the running of pre-school.
All committee members are voluntary, from the local community. All the committee members are available to answer any queries that you might have relating to the running of the Group. We welcome any ideas parents/carers may have that will enhance the running of the Pre-school especially ways to raise funds and new committee members are always welcome.
Policies and Procedures
Our Policies and Procedures are available to all parents/carers, please ask a member of staff if you would like to review them. They will be emailed to parents.
Fire safety procedures are also in place and the details are displayed for parental information on the notice board.

If Your Child is Ill
We would like to remind all parents/carers that if your child has been ill within 48hrs of a session he/she may be contagious. To ensure the well-being of other children we do not allow children to attend until 48hrs after any symptoms of illness.
The Staff will administer medicines prescribed by a Doctor subject to the completion of an Administration of Medicine permission slip for each relevant session you require the staff to do this. If your child is unwell during a session, we will contact you straight away and a staff member will care for your child until you arrive.
The Department of Education & Science and the Department of Health have issued a memorandum on the control of infectious diseases in schools. The recommended minimum periods of exclusion are shown on the following website: Infectious diseases: education and childcare settings
